Sadly so did many others because what was supposed to be the ‘safer’ zone wasn’t because of how it blew. The film covers all the things volcanoes do. Look at Monserrat. At Java. People are often caught by pyroclastic flows or lahars pelting down once the ice melts.

I must say that as a child watching this film I never paid much if any attention to the over arching plot mainly because I didn't really even understand what was going on. I think as a kid the main draw with this movie is the live action mixed with the animation. Like I'm probably gonna make myself look REALLY STUPID here but did anyone else up to a certain point used to watch the film and just assume that the cartoons were actually real and somehow existed along side the humans in it?

Jay & Amber, Pierce Brosnan is in an 1998 indy film called "The Nephew", a film I think you both will find, especially relatable & close to home, being that you're both of Irish decent. You'll both get a kick out of it & love it too! Jay, you say you like films about ancient civilizations, then you will absolutely LOVE "Apocalypto" from 2006. It's an amazing film, savage & brutal, & really paints a vivid image of what it must have been like to around in the days of the Maya or Aztecs. Lastly, you do realize that Oklahoma is not that far from super volcano that lies beneath Yellowstone National park? If it were to erupt, virtually nowhere in the U.S. would be safe. Don't take my word for it, Google it for yourself. Terrifying stuff.

The mountain in this was an actual model. However the Rockies are very much like this. You can go from red rocks and pinnacles to 12000 ft in an hour. Forests so thick you can't see 20ft in. Come on over, it's just a 10 hour drive for your family.

Not sure if you'll see this because your reaction was a year ago, but... You're talking about seeing the three movies without having to wait a year in between each one. You might know this by now, or maybe not, but there are people who for a while after these came out that were watching all three (or the three extended editions!) back to back to back in one loooong day! Now think about how long it would take you to read all three of the books! Knocking out the whole story in a day is just crazy!
